Amanda Social Media Links

Hello again you sexy mofos. Today I wanted to take the time to truly appreciate and show some love to this artist being featured today…..AMANDA OKAFOR! Aka the sugar in my tea, my chocolate drizzle! Now just to give you a little intro about this amazing woman, she is an Immigrant youth counselor, a poet, an artist, a friend, sometimes she’s funny….. jk, and to top it all off and make it even better, she is genuinely beautiful from the inside out. I can’t really remember how long I have known Amanda for, but it has been a while. I rarely see her but when I do it is always good vibes, lots of laughs and good conversations. I truly fell in love with her personality when I watched her perform some spoken word at Mount Royal University a couple years ago. A tear actually fell out when I listened to her, and you guys know I’m a tough mofo 😎 …. so for someone to make a tear trickle down is  a hard thing to do. Her talents did not stop there. I can truly say she is one of the smartest people I know. The way she represents culture while also constantly speaking and fighting for equality (both gender and race wise) truly amazes me. Our generation is truly blessed to have someone like her representing us. Seriously guys the only person that could possibly hate this girl is the devil himself. Her blog sheds a light on many issues that we all still deal with on a daily basis, while her poetry sends the readers on a deep journey into self awareness and exploration. If you think I am over-exaggerating check out her blog for yourself  Houseofyemaya  because I know you will be just as amazed as I am. Don’t forget to show Amanda some love, all her social media links are listed above. Have an awesome week everyone, see you again next Tuesday 🙂 .

One of my favorite poem from Amanda’s Blog ↓

The Calm Before The Storm

My body is a landscape
Deep hills and valleys of beautiful imperfections
Lakes of blood pumping organs
Mountains of muscles and carved out bones

9 months and a lifetime of
Flawed experiments and contoured labels
I once was a blank slate

But through every curve and arch
I am a history
I am a story
An unspoken tragedy that seduction cannot see

Crevice by Crevice
Seam by Seam
I’ve learned to sew on the skin
That I want the world to see

Too rough to be soft, too tough to be tender
I walk with confidence and spray on success
Too rough to be soft, too tough to be tender
I style myself with prominence, and I grace with eloquence
Too rough to be soft, too tough to be tender
Believe me when they say my smile cannot be missed

But it is in my silence (pause)
I lose my finesse, and so begins the stress
I tear through, soft and tender
Flesh by flesh, seam by seam
Sowing the seeds of instability
Inside of me
When I stare into my reflection
I stare deeply into my dark oval calamity

It is in my silence
That I am a volcanic explosion yet to erupt
My organs are collapsing
My bones are glass shattering
I am a world filled with earth quakes of confusion
Plagues of overwhelming thoughts
Can they smell the failure, odor of a decaying soul?
Do they see the hesitance in my steps?
The rags under my prominence
The-the- stammer in my eloquence
The sadness in my smile

It is in my silence
That I feel trapped
In my sleep, I am prisoner of the latent mind
Falling, falling deep into the sea of the lost
So much energy running through me
Static vibrations pulsating on my senses
Drowning in wet apprehension (takes deep breath)
Almost breathless

I feel trapped
Can’t move or speak
The shadows of my sins surrounding me
They have terrorized their way
Made home inside my head

Unable to escape their wrath
The wrath of my past
Whispers in my ear
Everything that I have to fear

War waged against my aura
When can I draw my sword?!

My body is a landscape
Deep hills and valleys of beautiful imperfections
Lakes of blood pumping organs
Mountains of muscles and carved out bones

9 months and a lifetime of
Flawed experiments
I am more than contoured labels
One day I found freedom in His name
He said to me you are a history
Rewrite your story
Your life is no tragedy
Stop running away from what must be

And so began the revolution inside of me
Like tectonic plates shifting
Physically, mentally, spiritually
A beautiful disaster that
Holistically began to create the foundation of my inner peace

Peace. Love. Unity
